Realistic life-like still life

Fruit is brightly coloured subject matter and often made as 'still life' subject matter in Art - however many have represented it lacking in colour and form, and often it can therefore appear flat in appearance with little volume too.
Colours of [particularly Citrus fruits] or apple are bright and glistening and give the image a reality by representing that colour and shape or form in the painted image.
Smooth layers of paint, and highlights, with a mild varnish further enhance the composition, and make it seem real enough to pick or eat. .
Art fair exhibitions..
Exhibitions are a useful way of showing artwork in a public context. Here at a regional venue within a municipal town Hall as part of a seasonal festival, [St. Clements festival Malton Yorkshire] in winter 2024: I was able to show a variety of my Wood carvings sculpture, prints, and other pictorial as well as illustrative artwork.
On display [Milton Rooms, Malton, Yorkshire]: Wood carvings in Mahogany, Beech wood, Ash, Sycamore, [ one is partly gilded in Gold leaf] also - intaglio prints, and metal printing plates, and paintings and my musical [illustrated] manuscripts.
24 CARAT GOLD LEAF ON WOOD..
There are many ways of enhancing or adding finish to a sculptural project; whether by wax polishing, painting, but by far the most extravagant is probably by the way of Gilding in Genuine Gold leaf.
I have many years experience of highlighting many of my wood carvings using genuine Gold leaves.
I use specialist materials, including 24 Carat gold leaf, and gold size, along with unique burnishing tools in which to enhance the finish [once completed].
Here is a short video film in which I demonstrate the basics of applying Gold leaf to a wood carving surface, and then burnish it with Agate stone burnishers; so giving a lovely lustre to the work.
My cabinet work is represented here by my special box, or container, which is elaborately veneered in exotic woods; made to hold musical instruments [ Chalumeaux; which are also made of wood].
The exterior is in Sapelle Mahogany, with musical motifs made from maple veneer, whilst the interior is veneered with Satin wood. The image on lid top is made in Indian ink, over holly veneer, and represents a musician playing a Chalumeau.[ of which the box contains]. The close fitting lid lifts off and so allows access to the instruments inside, and several ventilation holes are made into the lid. The underside has some motifs designed with 24 carat gold leaf incorporated into the musical shapes.
The music made into the side of the box is a real playable melody called ‘Chalumeau Serenade’.
Constructed between. 2024 – 2025.
Cabinet work
The image began as illustration for a musical work.. [called "The Rocking Horse"].
The selected image was then developed into a design for a wood carving. [ in relief]. Once transferred onto the wooden block, the drawn design began to be cut and carved away until it formed a more three dimensional relief work version of the original idea. So, a musical work has thus being both illustrated, and then made into a sculptural motif; hence three art forms have been made from the one original concept. [ music, illustration, sculpture.]

illustrations and written Work..
OTHER WORLDS.. an omni-novel.
These illustrations are made for my novel [ Omni-novel] titled “Other worlds”..This is a huge work of well over 1000 plus pages of text, and combines several art forms within its compass; such as music, illustration, writing, and relates to other supplementary art forms also [ costume design /sculptural elements.The novel deals with a man called John Fastidious who lived within a quite progressive, and forward looking, city [ PARADEMEA ] which has reached [so it believes] a new level or paradigm of advancement. The novel deals with our main character [ John Fastidious] which, as his name suggests is also quite neat, well presented, slightly reserved, accommodating middle aged man.There are many acquaintances and characters he becomes to know in his everyday life. ..It is only by mere chance, and coincidence, that through an unexpected situation, John finds himself caught inside a tumult of horrid weather [ inside a whirlwind] and finds himself then ejected upwards into another realm [ or world] completely unexpectedly, and for no moral reason, just by chance. Here he becomes familiar with several other unusual characters, and settings, which he has no idea ever existed in his recent comfortable existence in the lower realm of Parademea. .including: a Green-man, a lakeside Wood nymph, Adam Apple, Morriss Morriss are some of the first new people he meets on arriving at a quaint hall [ Goodberry Hall].Other places [ Worlds] are eventually met with through his need to explore the mysterious new realms once hidden to his eyes, many fantastic; A village of upturned people [ Enwood edispu], White cliffs by a turbulent sea, Gannets, living Skeletons, an island called Similee – [ with land-ships] and a world of huge cloud beings which play, and toss, his vulnerable self about like a toy in a cruel game up in the sky!
Written in several volumes hand written manuscript books [ over 1400 pages manuscript] Already typed up over many months afterwards..85 chapters. Many illustrations / musical works/ all interrelated in its broad compass.
